New developments at Koole Tankstorage Botlek

More loading and unloading capacity by Jetty 7

On May 11, 2022, the first barge was loaded on Jetty 7. Over the past four years, Koole built this jetty in collaboration with the Port of Rotterdam. This new jetty is an exciting addition to our terminal, and will allow two seagoing vessels or barges on one side and three barges on the other side, along a quay wall. This unique project was executed safely and in line with the new K2.0 program safety standards. A true showcase of how projects are executed in the new Koole way of working, and will enable further growth of the KTB terminal in the coming years.

First loading at Jetty 7 took place by barge

The construction of Jetty 7 was an immense project which required demolition and removal of quays and berths. Structures such as hose towers and a pipe bridge were built at a contractor’s yard and shipped to KTB, where they were installed as one package at the jetty. This was a major undertaking. Requiring dedication, and perseverance by all parties involved in the making of the jetty.

Increased loading and unloading capacity
This gigantic operation resulted in an L-shaped jetty with the ability to moor ships on two sides. Five berths accommodate inland vessels on the in- and outside, and space for two large seagoing vessels is available outside.

“We are immensely proud of this milestone within this impressive, dynamic project.”

Construction during daily operations
While Jetty 7 is already in use, project construction continues on the next phases of this enormous endeavor. In addition, by the end of 2022, Jetty 6 will also be commissioned. The entire project is expected to be completed in two years.

Milestone ensures further growth
KTB Project Manager Roel Kremer offers this perspective on the massive enterprise: “We are immensely proud of this milestone within this impressive, dynamic project. The fact that Jetty 7 is in use, while we continue to work on the project, poses a challenge to carry out the work as efficiently as possible. As a Koole team, we were very proud to see the first barge moored and being loaded at Jetty 7.”
